Full-scope TMJ surgery, from arthroscopy to total TMJ reconstruction

Not one technique but the one the joint needs: the least invasive approach capable of effectively treating the problem. That ranges from arthroscopy to open joint surgery and total joint replacement, including the cases where joint reconstruction and orthognathic surgery happen in the same operation.

In plain terms

Surgery of the jaw joint, from a minimally invasive arthroscopy through a small entry point to replacing the joint when it can no longer be repaired.

For patients

Areas of focus

TMJ ankylosis, idiopathic condylar resorption, revision of failed prostheses, stock versus custom joint selection, and the neurosensory outcomes of joint replacement.

Teaching

TMJ arthroscopy on cadaver courses with the Pacific Coast Research Foundation and Arthrex, and in the Nexus McCain Fellows program.
